Beginners - Six Way Cane Weaving
This one day course teaches the traditional seat weaving techniques on a small frame to take away.
Course Description
This course is aimed at beginners with little or no knowledge cane work. During this course you will replicate a six way weave pattern on a wooden square frame to take away with you along with guidance notes on the skills demonstrated. During the day we will: - Identify the most frequently used tools for cane work and their names. - Learn how to use tools involved in the stripping back and weaving of a caned piece of furniture. - Participate in group discussion about materials/furniture and where to source them. - Replicate the skills taught and demonstrate them on a square frame to take home. The skills learnt on this course can be used to tackle small projects at home or used as a foundation for progressing to our Continual Development course. On that course you can bring more complex pieces of caned furniture and receive guided support. What you should bring: - A notebook and pen for taking notes. - Camera to take photos and can be useful to take videos of demonstrations. - All tools are provided in class. Should you wish to bring your own the most useful are - an awl, wooden golf tees, flush cutters and a fabric kitchen cloth). Cost of the small square frame and materials to weave it are included in the course. Your tutor will advise on any extra items/costs required for specific projects. You may wish to bring a packed lunch, there is access to a kitchen and microwave. Free Tea and Coffee provided. Booking / Cancellation Policy
All courses are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and are confirmed only upon receipt of full payment. Courses are subject to a minimum number of participants. In the rare event that a course does not receive sufficient bookings, White Bespoke reserves the right to cancel or reschedule. If a suitable alternative date cannot be offered, a full refund will be issued. Refunds are not available for participant cancellations unless the space can be filled.
