Every project begins with a personal upholstery consultation. Each commission is uniquely tailored to the client’s vision and the structural needs of the piece, brought together through my expertise and attention to detail. Every item is treated with the same dedication, craftsmanship, and passion - restored with care to its former glory.

ABOUT WHITE BESPOKE
My name is Sonia White, and my creative journey began with a foundation in Art and Design, exploring everything from printmaking and photography to fine art, graphics, textiles, and product design. After earning a degree in Product Design, I gained extensive experience in the industry, working on high-profile projects for several well-known international brands.
Following a change in direction after starting a family, I moved into jewellery design, creating intricate bespoke pieces for wedding accessories designer Gillian Million.
In 2010, WHITE BESPOKE was born - initially as a hobby and an extension of my love for mid-century furniture and caning. I later enrolled at London Metropolitan University, where I earned an AMUSF -accredited certificate in traditional upholstery. Before long, my home was filled with antique market and eBay finds, and friends began asking me to breathe new life into their own tired furniture.
Today, I take great pride in the fact that most of my work comes through recommendations and word of mouth. With each new commission, my business has grown steadily, fuelled by a passion for craftsmanship and a deep appreciation for design.
I love discovering beautiful, unloved pieces and transforming them with sumptuous fabrics and rich colours - a process that not only updates their appearance but restores their charm and purpose. Here, you can explore examples of my work and follow the journey of each piece from start to finish.

1970's Egg 'style'
This chair was discovered at Kempton Market, and although it was in a rather sorry state, its hidden potential was immediately clear. After stripping it back to the original moulding, the restoration process began - reinforcing damaged areas and carefully tending to the squeaky, stiff swivel mechanism. Once the structure was sound, a fresh foam layer was added, and the transformation was completed with the addition of Camira stunning green Main Line Flax fabric.

Bentwood Art Deco
This beautiful Bentwood armchair, with its sprung seat and back, immediately caught my eye. After a thorough clean and revive treatment and some light staining, the wooden arms were restored to a deep, rich finish. The ‘Ion/Basil’ velvet from Kirby Design perfectly complements the wood tones and completes the refurbishment beautifully. Bought and sold locally, the chair now sits proudly in its new home, alongside the client’s other stunning Art Deco pieces. Kirby Design

Modern Tub
This piece began life as a modern faux brown leather tub chair, but the customer was looking for something more vibrant to suit their newly redecorated study. Together, we selected a bold, contemporary fabric that would complement the room’s fresh colour palette and bring new energy to the space. The transformation has completely changed the chair’s character - turning a once ordinary piece into a striking focal point that ties the whole room together.

1920's Cane Sunray
These two charming little chairs, with their elegant bentwood arms, had been stored in a shed for several years - patiently waiting for the right moment to be brought back to life. The beautiful sunray cane backs needed replacing, and the frames had suffered from water damage, so they underwent a full strip-down, re-stain, and satin finish. The seats were re-sprung and traditionally reupholstered in House of Hackney’s ‘Blackthorn’ velvet, giving these once-forgotten pieces a bold, luxurious new lease of life. House of Hackney

This little chair was a cherished family heirloom, handmade with simple knock-together joints. At some point in its life, it had been re-woven with seagrass. When it came to me, the brief was to secure the joints and give the wood a gentle clean - preserving the lovely patina and signs of age that form part of the chair’s character. The seat was re-woven in dyed fibre rush, creating a tightly woven, durable finish designed to withstand everyday use, resist spills, and allow for easy maintenance.

When I first spotted this piece on eBay, even with its broken cane, I could immediately see its potential. Caning is most definitely a labour of love, but as the re-caned arms and back show, every ounce of effort was worth it - the intricate circular design now shines in all its detailed beauty. After re-springing the seat, I created new feather- and foam-filled cushions, upholstered in ‘Smooth/Ash’ velvet from Kirby Design. The result is an elegantly comfortable sofa - as beautiful to look at as it is inviting to relax in. Kirby Design.

ANTIQUE TUB CHAIR - "I spent a long while wondering if we should have this inherited wedding gift re-upholstered. Now I spend a lot of time either gazing at it or making sure I get to sit in it before anyone else in the family. Sonia spent time talking me through the process and was incredibly patient with my indecision on fabric. She has an innate sense of style and colour, and was able to work out what I wanted even when I was unsure. My chair is not only part of the furniture, but part of the family. I can’t recommend White Bespoke enough." S Austin

LITTLE FLORAL CHAIR - “A big thank you to @white.bespoke for giving my little chair a new lease of life. I love all things floral but this fabric is gorgeous, you've done such an amazing job reupholstering it.” J Pedrick
SMALL CANE CARVER - "A friendly service at a fair and competitive price. The cane work on my chair has brought the piece of furniture back to life for many years to come. Very happy with the work and would recommend Sonia White wholeheartedly." T Freeman
NURSING CHAIR - "I had a very old and tired Victorian nursing chair that had been sitting in the corner of my bedroom covered in clothes, waiting for someone to bring it back to life. Sonia spent a lot of time talking to me about my taste in interiors and fabrics before bringing a large selection to choose from. She instinctively knew what would both work with my house and also with the chair. While she was working on the chair she kept me up to date regularly with photos. I am over the moon – she has totally transformed an old, tired, unloved piece of furniture and turned it into something I am proud to have out on show and hopefully a future family heirloom."
