Course Description

This course builds on the skills gained in the beginners course, supporting students in advancing their technique and confidence on pre-agreed pieces with personal guidance. In course materials for weaving are included. Participants must have completed the beginners course or submit a small portfolio of photos of previous cane work for review. During the day we will: - Recognise and name the most commonly used tools for cane work. - Safely use the tools needed for stripping back and weaving caned furniture. - Practise and refine weaving methods whilst working on your own piece. - Reproduce taught techniques and demonstrate them in completed pieces. - Build on existing knowledge, continuing to developing skills towards greater confidence and independence - Take part in group discussions about materials, furniture styles. The skills developed during this course provide the confidence and experience to take on more advanced seat weaving projects independently. Participants can now apply their knowledge to restore more complex caned furniture pieces and continue refining their technique through personal practice. Items you may wish to bring along: - A notebook and pen for taking notes. - A camera for photographing and filming demonstrations. - All tools are provided in class. Should you wish to bring your own the most useful are - an awl, wooden golf tees, flush cutters and a fabric kitchen cloth). In course cane materials are included in the cost. Your tutor will advise on any extra items required for specific projects. You may wish to bring a packed lunch, there is access to a kitchen and microwave. Free Tea and Coffee provided.
